Hey Mister (Do You Need a Hand)

Mister do you need a hand?
You’re lookin’ kinda shaky, like you could use a friend
Won’t you sit for a while?, I don’t have any plans
Hey mister do you need a hand?
He said I’ve been walking these streets, they’re all I know
That’s my corner over there, the nights are getting cold
But I don’t mind I do the best that I can
Hey mister do you need a hand?
I stood there for a while and I took a deep breath
I could feel the buzzin’ in my head, the pounding in my chest
I took a look around, tried to figure out how I got here
He was right there beside me all quiet like
He told me his name and I told him mine
And he gave me a wink and said, Hey buddy, won’t you buy me a beer
So we got two tall ones in paper sacks
And we sat on a bench by the cable car tracks
And we watched and watched as the day slowly slipped away
Mister do you need a hand?
You’re lookin’ kinda shaky, like you could use a friend
Won’t you sit for a while?, I don’t have any plans
Hey mister do you need a hand?
The old man talked in riddles and rhymes
Tobacco stained fingers, like rings of time
I looked into his eyes and brother I swear I could see my soul
He looked back at me with those eyes, those eyes
Fear drained from my veins, and i looked to the sky
With a smile and a wink he vanished, and I was alone
Mister do you need a hand?
You’re lookin’ kinda shaky, like you could use a friend
Won’t you sit for a while?, I don’t have any plans
Hey mister do you need a hand?
And every now and then I’ll think of that day
Some city street or some by-way
See the look in his eyes, see his road worn tan
Hey mister do you need a hand?
And I’ll fumble for some change, maybe say hello
Maybe buy him a beer, for luck, don’t you know
And I’ll hear those words an angel once spoke
Hey mister do you need a hand?
